(Source: Huawei) Chinese multinational Huawei has opened a smart warehousing facility focused on green energy, e-security, and modern logistics (GEM) this week in Johannesburg, South Africa. The facility is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) for access control and the latest warehouse management system applications.
"The warehouse facility is split into two sections, one section is dedicated to in and outbound tech movement, while the other section handles localized supplies and spare parts," Stevin du Plessis, logistics manager for Huawei South Africa's supply chain business department, explained during a tour of the facility in Johannesburg.
Huawei is located in Building 28, The Woodlands, Woodmead in Johannesburg, on the 1st floor (The Huawei Sub-Saharan command centre). Huawei also has a Technical Training Centre in South Africa, co-manned by Telkom.
"Huawei boasts a robust global supply chain, with approximately 1,400 warehouses spanning over five million square meters," he explained. He said Huawei has initiated smart warehouses in Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East. Notably, the South African warehouse marks the company's first smart warehouse on the African continent.
