Iraq''s Ministry of Oil has signed a major contract for the South Basra Integrated Project with a consortium comprising China''s Geo-Jade Petroleum and Iraq''s Crescent Basra
The major refineries include: 1. Daura Refinery: Located near Baghdad, Daura is one of Iraq's oldest refineries, with a capacity of around 140,000 bpd. It primarily produces gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani has announced that Iraq's refining capacity will soon reach 1,542,000 barrels per day (bpd) following the expansion of key refineries. During a visit to Maysan province, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Maysan [Missan] Refinery Development Project, which will increase its capacity from 40,000 to 110,000 bpd.
An interesting aspect of oil refineries in Iraq is their capacity to refine crude oil. Gasoline, kerosene, and car engine oil are the three essential needs of Iraqis today. However, these products are not directly produced in refineries. Instead, after refining gasoline, a significant amount of crude oil, bitumen, and other products are obtained.
Iraq's Ministerial Council for Energy has decided to major develop the Diwaniyah refinery, with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day (bpd). The decision, along with five others that were not specified in the Oil Ministry's statement, will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
