MGen eyes battery energy storage in Cebu to regulate region''s
Meralco PowerGen Corp. is planning to put up a 20 to 40-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system in Carmen, Cebu next year to address the Visayas region''s regulating
The plant, which will be the first battery-based energy storage facility in the Philippines, will be located next to the Masinloc power plant in Zambales. The energy storage array will enhance grid reliability by providing fast response ancillary services like frequency regulation.

The project is MGen's second foray into battery storage, following its planned 4,500 megawatt-hour energy storage facility in Nueva Ecija under MTerra Solar. That project is intended to support a 3,500 megawatt-peak solar pipeline in Luzon.
“Battery energy storage will be critical in managing variability in supply and demand, particularly as we integrate more renewable energy into the system,” he added.
