Bapco Modernisation Project: Transforming
Equipped with advanced features such as two-stage desalters, a two-drum overhead system, and the refinery''s largest energy-efficient heater, the
Bapco refines more than 267,000 barrels of crude oil per day. More than one-sixth of this capacity comes from the Bahrain Field.
The new facility will also include a residual hydrocracking unit of 65 MBPD, a VGO hydrocracking unit of 58 MBPD and two hydrogen units of 125 MMSCFPD each. Technip Energies is providing advanced technologies to improve the capacity and efficiency of Bapco's Bahrain refinery. This complex project has presented several challenges.
The refinery expansion will boost the plant's ultra-low sulphur diesel production by 72% and jet fuel production by 90%, its company website showed. Also, the refinery is expected to produce more naphtha, van Veldhoven said. On the feedstock front, Bapco Energies still plans to import heavier crude for the expanded plant.
